Removing the bonnet is not difficult and will make things much easier.
About 10 bolts and label and disconnect the wire harness, lift off with assistant.

You didn't say what engine the car had (948, 1275 etc...) 
It sounds like it may already be a "hot rodded motor" if it has an LCB and 
Weber setup.  What more does he want?  Nitrous?
