Hello Ed's,

A few interesting points about that article.

First, the date. This article is dated last April, so tho it is
new to US, it is old news.

Second, and most importantly, is that these kids seem to be
completely unaware of the 5th ammendment's rights about self
incrimination. The people at this event need not and should not
have answered any questions put to them by the police. If they
were NOT driving the car they should not have provided any
written ID. The courts have made it quite clear that while you
may not fail to give your name and address if asked by a police
officer, there is NO LAW that says you have to CARRY written
identification. And while the police may do a "sullivan" (pat
down) search if they fear that a person is carrying weapons, they
may NOT force you to empty your pockets. Thus it is legally
impossible for them to "find" your driver's license. Answering
the officer's questions can only lead to a bad outcome so other
than name and address, that should be the only information
provided to the police. This may be what happened in the case of
     the the twenty cars impounded?

The site listed (http://www.thenewspaper.com) has articles about
traffic, traffic enforcement, speed and red light cameras, stop
searches, etc, from Australia, The U.K. and the U.S.A. and is one
     of MY daily reads.
