Like you, I have never charged a finder's fee to a friend,  
acquaintance or anyone on any of these lists, even though I make my  
living buying, selling and selling parts from little british cars.  BUT,

Many people I know make at least part of their living finding,  
advertising for, selling and promoting cars.  They bear the expense of  
travel to see them, to take pictures, to negotiate, etc.  I don't know  
whether you are a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer or a homeless person,  
but I'm pretty sure you would not spend much time giving away the  
fruits of your expertise in your chosen field, and I am not about to  
denigrate someone else who practices the same way in his chosen  
field.  Try thinking before you claim moral superiority....
