It turns out that the front plate was bent on one side by the engine mount as well, so now I am pretty sure that the engine was dropped on the floor at some point. Good that I chose that one for major upgrading rather than a standard rebuild. Michael Rowe '74 Midget '60 Sprite kit Long Island, NY
