I used to do western gunfight re-enactments. We used .45 LC 5 in 1 blanks.
They are WAY louder than a standard round and are available in many sizes.
9mm is *very* common for the 5 in 1 blanks.  They even furnish enough back
gas to operate semi and full auto weapons.
