I was thrilled when they let us use Slide Rules our last year of High 
School (circa 1953!) instead of log tables.
I still have several different slide rules.
I baffle my off-spring with how many problems can be solved with just 
two movements ---  
For example, calculating the mpg using 12.5 gals for 330 miles is 
26.4 mpg --
9 key presses needed on a modern calculator.
And just two movements of the slide rule -- batteries not needed
