[Spridgets] Weber DGV question

The  set-up is a '76 1500 Midget with a 32/36 DGV ( manual choke)...
The Usual  starting routine - ignition on, fuel pump running, bit of  
choke..

My question is, assuming the DGV has an enrichment pump,  should I 
press and relelase the gas pedal prior to or while cranking the  
engine??
