[Spridgets] Secret to removing bonnet lock / hood latch

I'm having a difficult time removing the lock pin hood catch assembly from
the front of the old hood.
My 'new' one didn't come with the lock pin and spring so I'm trying to get
the old one off the old hood.
I loosened the nut and now the pin just pushes in, I thought it would be
screwed into a captive nut but it's not.
Maybe it is supposed to be in a captive nut but it's broken loose?
Is there some secret to it? I have a couple few other hoods I can try
getting one off of in case this one is just wrong.

Oh - and I've finally replaced the Buick / Tbird hood from my Sprite and
replaced it with a proper Sprite bonnet.
