The ultimate 2-way car that actually was put into production was the Zundapp 
Janus.

David, do you remember the one we saw at the Racine micro-car show?

Lane Motor Museum also has a re-creation of the "Cogolin" Citroen
supposedly built for a fire chief in France. Two front halves of a 2CV
grafted together in such a way that the car could be driven from
either end. The story is that this chief got stranded up some dead-end
road and had to reverse for several miles and never wanted this to
happen again.
