[Spridgets] Mistake

I made a really big mistake today.  

Steve Guterman is a new member of the list who lives about 5 miles from me.  I did not know him, but he is restoring a Bugeye that has been in storage for  many years, so I thought I would check it out.  Big Mistake.  

It looks nice in his pictures, of course (http://picasaweb.google.com/bealeguter/Bugeye#), but lots of cars look nice in pictures and can't meet the eyeball test.  Right?

Right?

Wrong!  Really bad mistake.

This car can meet the magnifying glass test.  It is drop-dead gorgeous, with all manner of custom touches like a cherry burl dash and custom welded aluminum grill, etc.  The engine bay is clean enough to serve dinner on, but it has so many colorful touches that you might have trouble distinguishing the hoses from the hors d'oeuvres.

I am destroyed.  There is no way I could ever manage the skill to build such a car.  Now anything I do will pale by comparison.  

I should have known.  Very big, very bad mistake.
