[Spridgets] Refilling a Rib Case

I have heard many opinions, so I'll just give you my own experience. The guy
who built my transmissions for me, Eric Jones, was considered the best by a
lot of people at building durable, robust rally LBCs. He told me to use 30 or
40W non-detergent oil, which you can find in the cheap sections of the store.
He said 10-30 or 10-40 wouldn't hurt it, but straight weight non detergent was
best. It is cheap enough and a job that is done infrequently enough that I
just do exactly what he recommended,

I have been running motor oil (as everyone has told me this is the only way to
go). 

I am running Rotella 15 - 40 in the engine.  I would guess that I should run a
standard 30 wt in the gear box? (As opposed to the 15 -40

in the engine)?

I have enough synthetic Red Line  20 - 50 sitting on the shelf that would save
me a trip to the auto parts store. .  but do I understand that synthetic
should not be used in the gear box?

Just an irritatingly bit more than a quart, I think it's 1.1 qt per the book.
And remember it's motor oil, not gear oil.
