Larry,

Checking my official 1959 Austin Healey Sprite BMC workshop manual makes no mention of oiling the backs of the bearings. They do say " smear the crankpins with engine oil"....

I have never put oil on the back of bearings, if they ever move you are in trouble.

Be interested to see if anyone does.

When assembling the main and rod bearings I have never oiled the back of the
bearing. One of the proverbial OBM's (old british mechanics) tells me that I
should always oil the back.

Anybody have an opinion on this?
