When that story first broke, the government concluded that the
contractor went on the cheap by making the pillars HOLLOW for the
foundation... When the property next door was being excavated, the
amount of dirt removed was enough for the pillars to shift. That
caused them to break because they were hollow and the building fell.
They broke in succession (kinda like imploding a building to make it
fall in a particular direction) and the building did fall slowy...
