[Spridgets] bearing noise

I just replaced my front wheel bearings, rebuilt the front brake calipers, and replaced a very dead front universal joint (no grease zerk!).  But I continue to have what I think is a different bearing problem that seems to be in the drive train, as the front wheels spin freely.  I fear that I may have done something wrong with the universal (maybe dropped a needle?), but my rear wheels are also very loose.

There is more than 1" of play in the differential at the wheels and there are what might be bearing noises or differential noises coming from somewhere in there.  What should I be looking for to trace this problem?
