NO, no, no Billy,
LEDs are the lighting system of the future.  Way, way ahead of every other 
commercial lighting system.  They are virtually instantiations, cheaper to 
run than any other lighting method and are versatile with several colours 
and brightness levels but they do have a low heat output.  Normally rated 
for 10,000 hours of use.

They are used for street lights, for lighting tunnels, for spotlights, for 
vehicle lighting, replacing strip lights and just about everywhere a light 
is needed there is a LED application.  Do not think they are Seventies or 
too directional, you will find they are the lights for the next generation. 
There are problems in getting the electrical supply down to the correct 
levels and because of this they do fail.  I get a supply of LED bulbs for 
playing with from mains voltage GU10s and it is usually the voltage 
regulator within the cap that has failed.  If the LED has failed it is 
usually because it has been fed too high a voltage (Chinese voltage 
regulators!).
