FLL is the leadup to FRC-FIRST Robotics Competition-
Strated by Dean Kaman in 1991- Tam, Some of you may remember her from Elkhart
Lake, is the president of her FIRST robotics Team. FIRST has a HUGE corporate
support system, with over 200 college scholarships available. Its such a great
program, costly but you get what you pay for. IT teaches the students to work
as a team toward a single goal. It involves gear heads, programmers, artists,
financial kids, all working for the same goal. It teaches them how real
engineering takes a group, not a single person.
The FIRST competitions are in Early April, if there is one in your area, I
strongly encourage you to go, the atmosphere is intense and the sharing
between teams is incredible. Better yet- volunteer as a mentor if you have
time, its a great way to bring the next generation along, I do!

>From the website:

   - FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a robotic competition developed for middle
   school age students.
   - Our goals are to inspire students to take an interest in science and
technology and begin considering these fields as a career.
   - There are three primary activities:1) Build and program a small robot
to accomplish various challenges, 2) Investigate a research topic and
present findings at the tournament, and 3) Build a team around FLL Core
   Values.

   - FLL Teams are 3-10 kids who are in the age range of 9 to 14 years of
   age.
   - Teams form in schools, clubs, and neighborhood groups. No requirements
   on affiliation
   - Teams need at least 1 adult coach/mentor. Two are recommended
   - There were 240 teams in the state of Washington for the 2010 season
