When Dan Gurney raced the GT40 he was too tall for the roof line so they 
needed to put a single bubble in it -- the "Gurney Bubble".  As I recall, I 
think Gurney was around 6'3" or 6'4".  Add a helmet and he needed a lot of 
head room.

And I might point out that the "double bubble" was not unique to this
car. It was a feature used on a number of Italian sports cars in an
effort to lower the roofline without alienating too many prospective
buyers. I saw one of these at the World Microcar Meet in Crystal Lake
this past summer; beautiful car!
