It is hard to imagine a more versatile vehicle than a minivan with fold-away 
seats, but these soccer-mom cars are about the least fashionable of all.

Mine has the seats down and a full sheet of plywood on which I can carry 
pretty much anything I want (including Spridget parts of all kinds).  Our 
white-water kayaks and gear fit inside.  We have quadra-fold foam pads for 
sleeping (Wal-Mart parking lots are good) and the seats can be raised in a 
few minutes on the rare occassions when we need to carry people.
