What are the benefits of an aluminum flywheel and how do you figure out how
much it needs to weigh? I know it lowers the reciprocating mass and thus
revs faster but what all else is figured into the equation? In short, how do
you calculate the weight of the flywheel needed and what real world benefit
would it provide.

Applied Friction Techniques in Orange, CA will build you a billet flywheel
for around $200. They do good work.
