Leo,

Are you trying to test a petronix coil or points?  I had found someplace on
the internet a test for the distributor, can't find it  now but will look
some more.  It may have been as simple as taking out the distributor and
hooking a multi-meter to the leads and seeing if the resistance value
changes as you spin the shaft.
