Most small prop driven airplanes use high octane gasoline. Turbine driven airplanes use a form of fuel very similar to Diesel or Kerosene. Electric planes work on the scale model level. Again, battery evolution would help them. I'd ride in a Helium filled Zeppelin with electric motive power.
