Never had a problem using mine - use it all the time everywhere I've been...

But I have had problems with places not taking American Express (like Abilene, TX) or MasterCard (Paris, France), and don't even think of Capitol One.... 

I always pay major bills with a check (paper trail in case of dispute!)
