[Spridgets] Running rough

How does it run uphill? If it does the same type of sputtering than fuel
starvation is a sure thing. You may want to change the fuel filter. It might
not look like it is clogged (if it is "see through"), but it can be and it is
a cheap try at fixing it. I use small plastic VW fuel filters in. They are
cheap and easily replaced. (for example: Ebay Item No. 190541777101)

but when I shift into third it starts to sputter around 2500 -

Robert,

I'm no expert but it sounds like fuel starvation, --a couple things
come to mind. Fuel pressure too low (not likely but it could be), carb.
floats too low or floats full of fuel. Also, if the old hoses were
deteriorated, you could have clogged jets or bits of rubber in the bottom of
the float bowl causing a restriction.
This is pretty much a guess on my part, but items I would check.
