Jeff,

I do not know about the solar charger but if you leave something connected all the time it should have the ability to sense the level of charge in the battery so it does not get overcharged.

I have used variations of Battery Minder (there are a number of brands that use the same block)that both sense the charge level and have some circuitry that help keep the plates in good shape. I will plug the car into them in Nov and remove it in April. Now I get 10+ years on a battery.

Seeking the wisdom - or at least experience - of the list. ;-)

Have any of you tried using a solar battery charger just to maintain
the battery on rarely driven cars or through the winter hibernation?
I'm thinking this might be a better option than having a wall wart
transformer plugged in constantly and the required extension cable
always under foot.

There's not a lot of sunlight in my garage but certainly enough for my
solar calculator so I'm guessing it'd be sufficient to trickle charge
a battery.

Any opinions/advice on this subject?
