[Spridgets] How to kill an alternator

I swapped out my generator earlier this year when the re-built  one went bad on the way to French Lick.
I put on a Lucas from O’Riley Auto – I do notice that when you first start up the car the red light glows till 
you blip the engine to 2500 to 3000 RPM – after that no glowing light even at low idle.
Guess that’s the norm.
