[Spridgets] Cunifer brake pipe

EdwardI have never heard of 'universal flares'.  Pipe end flares are either either a dome shape (male or single flare) or a funnel shape (female or double flare). To place it in the context most will understand it requires opposite sexes to seat correctly.  Next are the nuts that hold them together, if you have the correct threads for these they SHOULD be OK.  (There are 4 or 5 threads in circulation with the main split in more modern vehicles being Metric or UNF)  They should turn fairly resistance free by hand upto the last tightening spanner turn.  If a male nut on the pipe you MAY find this nut is not long enough as there is a small unthreaded portion at the start of the male nuts and this can be in different lengths.  If you tighten the nut up by hand this should stop any back and forth movement of the pipe, if there is movement, the unthreaded bit of the nut is not long enough.  The inner part of this nut contains a taper to seat and push on the pipe end to help make the joint.  The nut does not provide the seal, this comes from the pipe flare the nut pushes. There are other minor differences (but ones you should be aware of) in the angle of the flare dependant on the former  that made the flare and it COULD be you are experiencing a mis-match problem but Kunifer (copper-nickel) pipes are normally soft enough to overcome this and will deform and seal.  This very rare. Other problems could well be dirt in the fitting or deformed (crossed) threads cocking the nut over slightly.  Whatever else you try, DO NOT use teflon or other sealing tape,  'O' rings or any other kind of washer.  It may be you have to cut the flare off, then source a different nut or have a different flare at the pipe end.  If they don't seal when dry there is usually something you can see visibly wrong.Ring the pipe supplier to ask for help to see if he has any thoughts, but please don't ring him saying he has supplied the wrong end - he may well have - but the difference between asking for help and laying immediate blame can sometimes be the difference between having a new set f.o.c. or having to return the old pipe etc....
Best of luck

List, I've installed a complete set on my Bugeye. Two junctions leak, no matter what I try. Anyone with similar experience with these "universal" flares? Anyone installed a Cunifer set successfully? Ed Woods
