[Spridgets] Solenoid orientation question.

Daniel,

The gears of the starter may be pre-engaged, but the massive jolt of current required to make the motor run has to go through a switch. The solenoid is actually a switch with huge contacts. Don't eliminate it or the current load required to make the starter motor turn will be going through the tiny little contacts in the starter switch. You'll be replacing starter switches often.

That said, the solenoid should work in any orientation. :-)

I have a pre-engaged start so potentially could get rid of the solenoid but with a battery master-circuit breaker the wiring runs are such that I prefer to keep it. However, I'd like to change the orientation of it by 90 degrees. So the question is does anyone know of any reason whatsoever that would be a bad idea? For example is the solenoid action prone to sticking when the action will be vertical rather than horizontal.
