I have been running 175-70R 13 tires on my Bugeye for 10 years.  Last week checking out the brakes was the first time I had the tires off the car since installing them.  Heck, I have been lucky to drive it 100 miles a year while I was working.  I took them off only to check out why the brakes would only work when you pushed real hard on the pedal.  Due to age and heat the shoe lining had cracked and glazed over.  All it needs is new shoes, which I have.  I bought them from Ed a few years ago along with flexible hoses and new slave cylinders, just for spares.  I also found a tremendous oil leak on the right side rear.  OK, I'll fix that too.  Also the Australian Super Lite rim (Minilite replica) was rubbing on the tie rod end vertical threads on the left front side.  That is not a problem with the tires though.  The tire problem is in the back.  On the right side, the trailing arm bracket was rubbing against the tire wall and had cut a 1/8th inch by 1/4 inch wide trough in the side wall.  Not having a panhard bar on the differential, that rear end must be sliding back and forth just as it should, but with wide tires it's a problem.  The only other size I can go to that has the same diameter are 155 70R 13 tires.  Is anyone running these tires and what kind of recommendations can anyone give for a brand?  It's time for new tires in any case.Mike MacLean
