With Mark's system you have to confirm your desire to unsubscribe specifically to avoid having people removed without their permission. If you get a email to confirm an unsubscribe request that you didn't submit, simply delete and ignore the confirmation email; and rest assured you're still in the loop. So this is a cut and paste and that creates a second thread, sorry about that. On the Sprite's new alloy radiator the other year I drilled and then had welded a metric weld bung so I could fit a modern screw-in thermostatic fan switch. The fan still switches on using my manual switch but if I forget to switch it the thermostatic switch does the job. Well sort of. I couldn't get a switch to come on at as low a temp as I wanted. Even then, it doesn't switch on at that temp but at a higher one. I'm guessing the difference is between the radiator temp and the cylinder head temp (the latter being higher). I have a different Stack coolant gauge in the Sprite to the previous one (it died of old age) and this one doesn't have the facility to switch anything which would have been the way to (it takes a lot of book sales to buy a Stack gauge!). If you're on a tight budget go to a bone yard/scrap yard and salvage a temp sending switch and use it on whatever rad your Sprite has. You should still be able to wire in a manual override switch. Kenlowe fans have the same thing but I never used their sender and gave away my only spare a while back. It's sensor bulb went into a rubber arc'd piece that allowed the sensor to be placed into coolant where a radiator hose slpped onto a hose nipple.? ?I had it located at the thermostat housing.? ?I'm leaning towards something like that.? ?Most modern temperature sensors are designed for 195? as an initial "on" temperature.? ?Also most I could find at the local junk yard are going to be very modern and the bung they screw into would be a plastic radiator.? ?I'm using a stock 1275 cross flow radiator.? If I had a decent temp switch ( 180? or lower?) And a copper/ brass bung , I could solder it into the radiator end tank.? Or possibly into the lower coolant cross tube .? ?Yes I know the hotter coolant is on top not on the bottom.? ?Possibly on top of the thermostat housing , although the rear of head heater tap is going to be a bypass up to the thermostat housing which may make that casting a bit "busy" for a thermostatic switch mount.? Those cast iron cross flow thermostat housings are awfully heavy and rather thin in the domed area over the thermostat.? ?I'd use an alloy one of I had one that pointed the right way....? As of this writing I'm committed to using the cast iron one and brazing a 90? fitting on top for the coolant bypass back to the heater port on the head.? I'd love to do it with AN fittings and cool braided hose , considering the "we tight" budget , that's not happening.? ?My radiator guy is 1.5 hours away and he might have a copper or brass bung ( he must have 500+ junk radiator that he uses for pieces to modify radiators for customers) but too far to drive on a gamble.? I could shop old foreign cars in our local pick-N-pull ( our "breakers") and test them for what temperature they make contact to close a circut.? Somewhere I remember the old VW's ( rabbit & Scirocco days) had pretty reliable sending units.? ?I need to do some research looking into early electric cooling fan system operating temperatures or pressures ( higher pressure systems traditionally were higher temperature systems from past experiences).More to come as I get more input.ChuckSent from my LG Mobile -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you had a steel weld bung threaded M12 you could weld it into the cross tube. Not sure why you are putting the heater tapping coolant into the thermostat - I've always just put mine back into water hose. Are the aluminium thermostat housings expensive in the USA? Looking for an overdrive transmission for it now. >>>> >>>> ------------------------ >>>> >>>> spridgets at autox.team.net >>>> >>>> Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html >>>> Suggested annual donation: $12.75 >>>> >>>> Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive >>>> >>>> Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/soavero at yahoo.com >>> ------------------------ >>> >>> spridgets at autox.team.net >>> >>> Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html >>> Suggested annual donation: $12.75 >>> >>> Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive >>> >>> Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/miniac7 at aol.com > ------------------------ > > spridgets at autox.team.net > > Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html > Suggested annual donation: $12.75 > > Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive > > Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/soavero at yahoo.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Looking for an overdrive transmission for it now. > > ------------------------ > > spridgets at autox.team.net > > Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html > Suggested annual donation: $12.75 > > Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive > > Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/soavero at yahoo.com > ------------------------ > > spridgets at autox.team.net > > Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html > Suggested annual donation: $12.75 > > Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive > > Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/miniac7 at aol.com > ------------------------ > > spridgets at autox.team.net > > Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html > Suggested annual donation: $12.75 > > Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive > > Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/soavero at yahoo.com > ------------------------ > > spridgets at autox.team.net > > Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html > Suggested annual donation: $12.75 > > Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive > > Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/lmacy at mac.com > ------------------------ > > spridgets at autox.team.net > > Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html > Suggested annual donation: $12.75 > > Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive > > Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/soavero at yahoo.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... When these plates are issued the DMV includes FLAGS which are pieces of aluminum that attach to the upper hold down bolts, one each side. To make this work, bolt the pump to one piece of rubber and then drill thru both pieces of rubber at the ends. Bolt thru the 2 pieces of rubber to the car body. The bolts that hold the pump to the 1st piece of rubber will not touch the car and the noise and vibration will be reduced ;) Kevin V. The pump failed. I thought the cause would be alcohol laced fuel and sitting over winters, but on dissection I found the electronics that controlled the electromagnet that moves the plunger had failed. Electronics got too hot, I guess. Another clue was that after the car sat 15 -- 20 minutes (cooled) the pump began "knocking" again, but failed again within about 6 houses from home - when it warmed up again. Replaced with same kind / brand of pump and so far so good. All the internal moving bits were free and bright and shinny. The electronics are "potted" so a comprehensive examination of the electrical parts wasn't possible. They use hourglass shaped rubber bits with a threaded stud on either end. This will stop the noise!? Use at least 2!ChuckSent from my LG Mobile------ Original message------From: Orkin, Jack L via SpridgetsDate: Sun, Dec 29, 2019 9:45 PMTo: Ryan;spridgets at autox.team.net;Cc: Subject:Re: [Spridgets] [External] How best to silence facet fuel pump? You can try something like these rubber mounts (available at Summit, Pegasus, etc.).? ?The transmission mount for an MGB will work (number escapes me now) but the rubber is much harder and doesn't work as well.
