A VERY GENEROUS list member sent me a competition oil pan.   It needed a little work as time had done it's "thing".  Well I fixed and fabricated a bit or two. Then I went to test fit it and UH-OH...houston we have a problem!   It would not fit over the rear main cap on my core 1275 block.  It took a little homework to figure this pan was intended for a 948 or 1098 with small journals.  Ok I did all the other work I might as well make it fit a 1275.  I had 1 1275 stock oil pan and 5 948 ones!   Yup I cut up a perfectly good 1275 pan and grafted the piece in the rear that fit the 1275 rear main cap. .BTW, the fronts fitment is the same 948-1275.   So...yesterday I was running taps through every threaded hole in the block a spin on oil filter fitment came to mind....yeah, it is an interference fit!   As in the filter I have (& I have 4 or 5 more ! So I intend to use them!) Is just long enough the end up literally into the top edge of the extended sump.  Guess what I'm doing today?   YES!  Cutting that edge to allow about 1/2"-3/4" clearance around the filter and between 3/4"-1" bottom of filter to the oil pan.  That will allow the use of a tool to loosen ( if needed) and enough room to drop off the threaded piece in the factory spin on filter housing.  Now I had considered doing a remote filter ( I have a remote filter casting) , but I do not possess the plate for a fitting that many sell for a remote filter set up.  Or I would leave the pan alone .This has been a huge challenge to make the pan fit , right down to a custom sump pickup assembly for it and a partial windage tray it was missing.  Whew!   I DEFINITLY am using this pan!( talk about determined!)Now back to porting a 1275 head!   Chuck.Attached : Image is the interference fit....Sent from my LG Mobile
