Clearly the wiring for the whole of the back of the car runs along the sill and will need to be removed. I'm not sure if the wires are the originals from 1969 or replacements I've made at some point during my ownership, or a mixture of new and old. I can see they are taped with insulating tape and fixed to the sill with P clips and self tapping screws and the cable run isn't level - earlier handiwork on my part of maybe a decade ago. So the project is to create a new loom section with all new wires and sleeve them in heatshrink. All new cables have thinner insulating for the same or a higher amp rating which is ok, and I always buy the correct coloured cables with tracer colour. The brass nipples are on and the most action my crimping tool has seen for a while. I've also soldered them which also seals the tops nicely. I've sleeved over more than a metre (that's 3 feet) and have a branching out section to heat shrink where the fuel pump live wire leaves the main section of this loom. While the bodyshop that looks after the Sprite's body will be fitting the sills, I purchased them and have them here in my garage. So the plan is to drill holes for RivNuts and RivNut the sill ready for where I will fit P-clips and have a much neater (level) run for the new cable. It'll be a few weeks before the car goes to the shop. So I climb in the boot, over the back seat, open the door and switch off the lights. I tried starting it to make sure the battery wasn't low due to the lights being on. It started OK but the tape player starts playing. I did not turn it on. Switch off the ignition, tape still playing the ghosts favorite song!!! LOUD too. Key out of the ignition, music still blasting. Now I know the tape player is wired thru the ignition, I wired it myself and it always worked OK. Now I can't even lower the volume, it was at the ghosts favorite level. Would not go up or down. Power off on the player, no dice. So I told the neighbor it must be haunted. I left the keys in it again, went out the drivers door, tested the door again to make sure it wasn't locked, it was not. Back to mowing the grass, the song ends and the tape player shuts off. It was loud enough to hear across the street with a lawn mower running. Finish the lawn chores and go to get in the A40. The door is LOCKED!! Now I know it worked when I left it. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Thanks, Rick. This a great one from the master indeed. When I visited with Frank, along with my three sons, he insisted that Mark, then about 14, go and drive the A40. Fair enough; the fact that Mark had never driven before, and had no licence did not concern Frank in the least. Off you go, he told him. Now, watching the poor A40 kangaroo away from the house was a sight that has stayed with me ever since. The effect on me as the car disappeared from view was severe as I calculated how much holiday cash I had left to set against the inevitable damage that I should pay for. These thoughts were going through my mind, as Frank showed my around his cars and workshop. But, low and behold, Mark arrived back with the car in one piece. I believe the fact that Tiffany was with him saved the day! Frank was one heck of a guy. I miss him. RIP. I found that the typical hose clamp acted like cheese grater on the silicone material so the kits I offered had STAINLESS Jubilee clips. They were much kinder to the hoses. I specified stainless because the regular Jubilee is mild steel and can rust badly. So are you guys using the proper clips? It would be a shame to ruin a good hose with a bad clamp and then blame the hose. The first sets ever made are still in perfect condition on my Sprites... My thanks to Mssr. Stapleton who has kept his hand in the production of the hoses. I just never had the network he does!!
