Now that she is no longer here I am making long trips even though I am not racing anymore. Hopefully some of you racers there can make a hotel recommendation, $200+ at the Conclave hotel is a bit much for the entire time. Plus I would much rather hang out with the racers, that was always almost as good as the racing. > > Sent from my iPhone > John Jones > NaDaDawgRacing at yahoo.com > 704-351-0933 > >>> On Nov 2, 2023, at 8:46?AM, miniac7 at aol.com wrote: >>> >> ? >> The dates that have been identified are: >> >> Sep 13-15 VSCDA Fall Vintage Festival >> >> Sep 15-19 Austin Healey Conclave >> >> Howard Collins >> >> In a message dated 10/31/2023 11:17:20 AM Eastern Daylight Time, spridgets at autox.team.net writes: >> >> >> I wouldn't miss it. Many of you may have heard that there was the possibility of a combined Vintage Race and Conclave overlapping with VSCDA's mid-September Elkhart Lake / Road America event. Well it has been confirmed. On the race side of this equation there will be a special Sunday Austin Healey Race on the same day that the Austin Healey Conclave starts for the kick off of their week and then runs for the next several days. This should be really exciting with many Big and Small World Class Healeys racing along with street & display cars. The Conclave is the Austin Healey Club of America's annual get together in various parts of the US. Next year it will be in Elkhart Lake / Road America / Sheboygan Wisconsin area. The Conclave typically has displays, rallyes, solo events, banquets and car shows just to mention a few. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know and I will share those with others running these events. I am tentatively going to plan on being there for both events. I will share more details as they become available. >> >> Stan Mason >> ------------------------ >> >> spridgets at autox.team.net >> >> Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html >> Suggested annual donation: $12.75 >> >> Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive >> >> Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/miniac7 at aol.com >> ------------------------ >> >> spridgets at autox.team.net >> >> Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html >> Suggested annual donation: $12.75 >> >> Archive: http://www.team.net/pipermail/spridgets http://autox.team.net/archive >> >> Unsubscribe/Manage: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/spridgets/miniac7 at aol.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The one caveat that David told me when he sold me the set of shaft and rockers was that the rocker bushes had to be honed to fit the shaft. The hardening process had increased the diameter of the shaft by a couple of thousands. Not a problem. I found a local shop that can do it. The rockers should have a clearance of 1 -2 thou for proper lubrication. The one thing I did not take into account was the pillars. Should they be honed also? I can find no indication anywhere of the clearance dimension for the shaft to pillar fit. Knowing that a tight fit will produce failure and too loose of a fit will drop oil pressure. Don't read further unless you have time to spare. Time to ask you a question - what is the purpose of 'honing'? Save you thinking (lol), it is to improve the regularity of the surface both in its geometric shape and its surface finish. (I always thought it was to make it rounder and smoother but - what do I know.) So it improves a moving contact between a couple of lumps of metal. ie piston rings to bore or, rocker shaft to rockers. It reduces friction and enables a larger surface to surface contact area.Honing reduces friction to a minimal amount - so ask, does your rocker shaft rotate in the pillars or do they hold it nice and rigid preventing unwanted fluctuating movements in a precisely calculated rocker arm movement and position? The pillars hold it still. So, as a general, background thought - if they are moving, hone it and if they don't move against each other don't bother. Now this is not a rule, various surfaces (ie head to block or manifold flanges to block) do need a tad of honing to make them seat properly and some extreme honing comes under the guise of 'polishing' but that doesn't generally improve the geometric qualities - but it can. It is just a rather loose basic principle. I was finally zeroing in on a GMB water pump on British Parts Northwest website. I called to ask them about this pump because it was $50. Almost twice what Moss wanted for their Chinese pump. I was told it was very reliable and it was made in Japan. I'll take Japan over China any day for parts for my Bugeye. They were out of stock and did not know when they were going to get more. Bummer, but Google is your friend and a quick search found the same pump at Summit Racing for 27 bucks!
