I'm trying to put a ND 3 wire alternator into my BE. It's already converted to Negative ground and I'm intending on rewiring the regulator per Barney Gaylord to just use it as a terminal block. Here's the issue, the alternator has a Battery Positive Sense (S) terminal, a Keyed Battery Ignition (I) terminal and an Indicator Light (L) terminal. I'm assuming that the S terminal should get the 'fat' brown wire that used to go to the D terminal on the regulator (new placement the A terminal after rewiring), and that the L terminal goes to the small yellow wire to feed power to shut off the charge light. Do I need to wire the I terminal (Keyed battery ignition) so that it sees power when the ignition switch is on (the white wire at A1 of the regulator), or is this redundant and unnecessary? TIA, the new engine/5 speed/speedhut tach & speedo are all coming together to drive this spring! I'm looking back through my notes from when we wired the alternator into my car. I'm assuming that the fundamentals between the one you have and the one I have are fairly similar. However, the 3rd wire is the main difference. I'd try it both ways, with it connected to switched power and without. This particular alternator might have some kind of circuit that cuts everything off if it doesn't sense ignition power. Do you happen to have the part number of this alternator handy? It appears that the I terminal needs switched 12V, the L terminal is the charge lamp signal, and the S terminal gets battery 12V along with the B+. There was a thread on the MGB forum about this same ND alternator highlighting that if the S terminal isn't seeing battery voltage, you don't get full 14+V output, so I've wired it to the B+ terminal as well. This was supposed to be a 1 wire alternator, but it's what I've got, so I'm working it out. Thanks to everyone who has offered input. I'll report back about this after I finish the rest of my mod adaptations and get it running. My question is, who is running the PDLJMPR (known as "Puddle Jumper'') web magazine? https://pdljmpr.tripod.com/contents.htm. I was surprised to see it still up and running. My second question is, who is running "Sprite Spot" as the photos are long gone for many years but some elements still remain although unsecured, http://www.spritespot.com. I know Mike was a member at one time, but don't know if he still is. I found a couple of posts from him featuring the Holy Sprite from 2019. "Cars today are all digital. But you probably know we have an analog car, Michael?s 1959 Austin Healey Sprite. The Sprite is our everyday driver because it?s so reliable, thanks to Michael?s tinkering. See the proof: We picked up a new printer that day. *Michael here: In fact, the car is not completely analog. I confess to installing a modern computerized distributor that only looks original on the outside. And here?s another confession. The day we picked up that printer, we actually broke down on the way home right in the middle of the biggest six-way intersection in Honolulu. I was stuck with the printer on my lap, so the driver behind us jumped out to help Mona push the car out of the intersection. Not one horn honked. That?s Hawai`i!"* *Aloha,* *HealeyRick* On Sat, Mar 23, 2024 at 5:48?PM Larry Macy wrote: > Yea, I?m still hanging around. Sold my Midget when I went full time living > in an RV, summer of 2019. To: HealeyRick The Holy Sprite is alive and almost well in Honolulu, where it is our daily driver. It has a permanent leak from the timing cover that we have been unable to fix with several tries. It was off the road for a while needing a Datsun speedometer pinion, which I ended up switching with one from my spare transmission. Now the spare needs the pinion (Green, 16 teeth). Anyone need a Datsun 210 transmission with dead pinion? The car is a rarity here and gets lots of comments from nostalgic passersby. It's always nice to see or hear of our dear OSHIT friends even if only digital. I think had Paul Asgeirsson stayed with us I would have gotten a Morris Minor Traveler as they are so utilitarian. So sad Jim Johnson had passed I think last year. Did Jim ever get his Spridget finished? As I recall he was never the same after his dear wife passed.
