[Spridgets] 948 thermostat housing

Chuck,
Obvious - You have not been using English coolant !  😃

Seriously, I've never seen this before so I can only suggest in the
dark.  If others have come across it please shout out.....
    * The inside of the thermostat housing should not be scored by the
top of the thermostat, there should be a clearance.  This may suggest
that one or the other is the wrong English part that may look as if it
is the right one, but it was made for something else and just looks as
if it fits.
    * Could it be the upper housing (the bit you are going to weld)
and/or the bottom have been filed or smoothed down at their joining
surfaces (perhaps for a closer fit) and this brought the top of the
upper housing down onto the thermostat?
    *
Is the cut-out groove that seats the thermostat clear ?
Best wishes
Guy R Day

Well it had to happen somewhere... right?
How about an English made thermostat in an English engine damaging the
English correct thermostat housing?
For ever I've endured the wrong part from some backyard parts supplier
stuck in where it does not belong.  This time it's a seemingly proper
part in a proper car....
Anyone else find this on their car?
I'm going to aluminum weld the crack just because the casting is too
nice to recycle.  Usually I find these horribly corroded where the hose
attached....this one is too nice....
Chuck
