50's TBird-->Alpine YES!!!, I always thought from the front they looked suprisingly similar! The proportions of the Alpine/Tiger is better IMO.

Ever notice the similarity between the original Ford Thunderbird and 
Alpines? Same peaked fender line, hooded headlights, tail fins, & 
grill opening. Before joining Rootes in 1956 as chief designer of the 
Alpine, Kenneth Howes was in charge of the Ford design studio in 
Detroit.  Coincidence? I don't think so.

In a departure from production standards, the original headlight rims 
on the Le Mans mule were stainless steel and were round. And yes, the 
peak of the fender line extended above them. I thought they looked 
pretty mean, and had quite a time finding some nice replacements. 
Today the car sports some chromed MK II's....?????
