I've always been of the understanding that a given engine would produce
slightly more torque with a crossover tube... and that the closer it was to
the engine, the more effective it would be... Having said that, I haven't
seen any data to back it up...!

....at least in late model performance like my 5.0 mustang, we have "H"
pipes
and "X" pipes...and I think its meant to equalize the harmonics of the
exhaust
pulsing between the two banks...which improves exhaust flow
effeciency...very
slightly I'll bet. It was said earlier and I'll agree, the engines do seem
to
sound alot better with it installed...IMO

pardon my ignorance.  what is the purpose of a crossover pipe between
the exhausts, anyway?
