I think much depends on how you treat the noise. I live in a pretty  quiet 
neighborhood and no one ever raises an eyebrow with my glasspaks.   But, do kind 
of idle through.
Now if someone has loud pipes and wants to show them off in quiet  places 
that's just asking for trouble.
