More of my $.02

It should be made clear, the 260 is a DIFFERENT block than a 289 (all 5
bolt )

...At least from the casting thickness standpoint.

...and /or as they came from the factory!

Ford recommends up to a +.60 over bore with a 260, only +.030 with a 289.

The number of 260 blocks (3.800) bored to 289 (4.00) seems to be going
up!

Several "big Bore" 260 owners claim success.

...and even some books seem to indicate the same casting numbers for some
260 and some 289 (all 5 bolt) blocks.

With the number of BIG BORE 260s out there, could it be that a BB 260 has
confused the casting number world?

...And getting back to bore length, I read about the longer cylinders of
the 302 blocks.

But when you get down to measuring them, the difference goes away into
production variations.

...something about believing NONE of what you READ and only HALF of what
you SEE?

At first glace, the 302 blocks LOOK like they have longer bores.

But that is only because the non thrust sides are shorter.

...by the way, None of the above is is true... but thinking makes it so.
 ;-)
