Tony,
To quickly answer your question. -  I can't account for the numbers and the
different transmission (by name), but yes, about 50 some cars early came
with a transmission other than a Ford Toploader. I don't have time to look
it all up, but the general premise is correct.
It's sort of like the first 400 Tigers came with vinyl dashes (and are not
Algers).
