I always wondered the same and I used to wonder how many of the bubbles I
was seeing were generated just by the long length of the clear tube.  I too
did not want brake fluid anywhere near my interior.

A friend of mine built and used one of these and LOVED it.

The speed bleeder company advertised that it made bleeding brakes a  "one
man 
job."  I actually called one of their dealers and asked how I  could pump
the 
brakes and watch the bubbles in a jar under the wheel at the same  time.  He

told me to just use a 10' tube and take the tube and jar with me  into the
cab 
of the car;-)
