The California Republic was declared in Sonoma by
1846 and the declaration freed the entire state
from Mexican rule.  25 days later, the US
military occupied California.  I'm surprised an
fervid a California enthusiast as Mr Laifman
would not be aware of these simple facts!  <he grins>
