Jim
Bob Mannel's book shows nylon cover cam timing gear from March 1965
through 1969; steel gears were aftermarket parts.

Subject: [Tigers] cam gear

Hello,

David Franchi wrote about the cam gear's nylon teeth giving way. I lost 4
teeth on my 260 and I swallowed a valve which rotated in the cylinder after

breaking off, and the sharp end cracked a piston in half.

I needed a complete engine rebuild.

Do yourself a favor. If you haven't rebuilt your engine, pull the water
pump off and the front engine chain cover and CHECK THAT GEAR !. Ford went
to
all steel gears in 1966 to get away from the problem. Who would have
dreamed that these engines would be run as long as they have and that the
Nylon
would have seen 50 years of heat cycles.
