[Tigers] Tigers Digest, Vol 9, Issue 148

If you take time to put up good pictures and relevant product description then you’ll generally get good results from an eBay auction. Best one I had was where I re-sold a pair of four-barrel Carters that I got with an Offenhauser manifold. The carbs were very rough but the part numbers indicated original equipment on a Chrysler big block or Cobra fitment. I indicated that in the auction description, and I was getting invitations to end the auction early pretty much an hour after I put up the listing. I ended up getting something like $600 for the carbs. It likely would have taken at least that much more to properly rebuild them and still more to restore the appearance for a concours display, but given the number of bidders I’m pretty sure that I (and they) arrived at a decent price in the end.

Hi Mayf,

My suggestion to you is to put your stash items up for auction. Highest bid wins! Either market correct or someone gets lucky. IF you happen to think it is worth a specific $$$ then put a reserve on your auction. Hope this helps.

As do we all, I am aging out, lol. In the time since I have been the
steward of the Tiger known as B9471136, I have collected a lot of stuff. Not
yet too interested in selling off the pile but not too far into the future,
maybe. I am in the process of slowly gathering up stuff accumulated over
50 of hosting this Tiger. What I would like to know is what kinds of prices
might one charge for stuff. For instance, I am returning the OEM 2.88 rear
gear set, but with a posi LAT piece, to the car. That leaves me with a 3.54
rear gear set with posi that I can either sell or let go with the car to the
next owner, someday. I got on ebay, place where I check prices and
conditions of stuff being sold, and found a lot of the stuff I have. Maybe
10% of it anyway. I am amazed by the asking prices of the items I see. One
that caused me to blink rapidly was the dash finisher, that small piece that
bolts to the dash under the dash opening where the steering column is
located. The one I saw was an Alpine item but same as Tiger less the faux
wood finish. The Asking price was 55 bucks! Tons of stuff there like that.
So how does one actually determine a real asking price foe the various
items? Lie what is a posi worth? How about a stock brake vacuum booster? A
Tiger aluminum oil pan? Tiger Valve covers? How about a 5 bolt block and
hi[o look alike heads (ie ported to match hipo with screw in rocker studs
and small combustion chambers). Do I set a generic price and then when the
new owner comes to check the car tell him what the price is and then hand
him a spreadsheet with all the itemized items with costs and see if he wants
all of that? I have a set of hipo 289 rods. What are they worth? I saw a
generator and it's cast iron mount with a starting price of $399 bucks or
so.

So, my question is, "how does one set a realistic price for Tiger stuff that
might have relevance in a good home. Ie, not in an Alger. In fact, if any
of you think that you might want something in the future, not tomorrow, lol,
I am still alive and kicking right now, shoot me a note. Heck, I even have a
Boss 302 oil pan that used to be on my car. I have a Boss 302 damper still
on it, lol.

Interested in knowing how ya'll figure out what stuff should sell for.
Without out having to negotiate everything singularly.

One of the items that most likely will come up for sale is a 3 foot by maybe
5 foot rug that is the cat symbol and the powered by ford logo. My
sweetheart and I hand made that piece and it is black and orange. This
would be for the owner who thinks he has everything but not this rug, lol.
And it will cost him.

Anyway, just chatting here and hoping someone will have 'how to' answer on
pricing reasonably rare stuff.

Mayf and thanks for listening..

You can't go by what people are asking, you should follow the sold items on eBay that will give you a better idea what parts sell for. Here is a link for examples.
