I have an old HP pavilion computer that has a pretty fair cpu and a couple
of gigs of memory. I wanted to use this for just analyzing the SETI at Home
data sets they provide to folks to help them analyze all the recorded star
noise. I wanted to use a SATA 120 GB SSD (drive 0) paralleled with a SATA
500GB (drive 1) 7200 rpm hard drive. The old box is running right now with
an old 30 GB IDE drive and Win XP pro on it. I have the 120 GB SATA SSD
installed as drive 0 and I have an OEM win 7 software package I purchased a
long while back but never used. My problem now is that if I remove the win
xp pro hard drive so that the SATA drive is ready to be installed, then the
CD will nto start or run without that being on a another, drive, like the
old floppy drive. Seems like I am in a catch 22 condition. I have lots of
old software and at one time this morning I managed to format the SATA SSD
with NTFS, but not bootable apparently because when I remove the IDE drive
and check the bios it shows up there as the hard drive to boot from. But it
won't, lol. Even when I insert the new old win 7 pro disk it will not do a
thing. So I am ready to pull the rest of my hair out. I can put it all
back to non SATA and put the software onto a new 250 GB PATA drive and just
use that, But, dang, I want to boot from the SSD! Any thought out there
other than kill myself right now? I think I am going to do that and see
what happens.

Any help or ideas?
