[Tigers] Cam Thrust Plate

I think you are on to something with the oil slot. I'm going to try out a
newer style of thrust plate that has an ear to one side with a groove cut
into the back side of it.

When the new thrust plate is installed the ear covers up a small hole that
leads to the passageway for the distributor shaft.

This hole currently has a plug in it since the original thrust plate could
not utilize the extra oil. I searched for info on the web and there is a
lot of discussion in various Ford forums about whether or not to knock the
plug out when installing the newer style of thrust plate. There doesn't
seem to be any agreement about what to do.

It would seem to me that if I knock out the plug, there will be a little
bit of oil flow from the distributor area through the groove in the thrust
plate where it will be deposited between the thrust plate and the face of
the camshaft. The Edelbrock timing gear might be able to pick up some of
this extra oil.

So, I'm looking for opinions. Knock out the little plug or leave it in
there?

Thanks,
Joe Brown
