I will warn though that if you have the same thing, and the A arm is shifting around in there, it might make the Ackermann angle issue worse, and make it that much more likely that you can break your A arm mounts - especially going backwards. Or heck, maybe it makes it better! But either way, I'd be super careful. On Fri, Jun 12, 2020 at 7:41 PM Mark Rense wrote: > I?ll be willing to bet your A-arm bushings are shot. I then loosened all suspension bolts and let the car sit on all 4 wheels for a few days also pushing down occasionally. Backed in and out of the garage a few times. Things settled into the correct ride height after that. Tightened all suspension bolts and was good to go. Good luck. And if that was the case the static alignment is now based on the changes that weight made. Whenever something changes..., go back and look at the changes made even if elsewhere. I swapped an EAO 2.0 for a Lima 2.3 with turbo in my Pinto and the weight difference produced similar results. But in my case I was expecting a difference.? Why 3" in the rear? Does anybody know where to get them or what they are called? The female threaded part appears to be 3/8"-14 and I think the tubing that goes into it is 3/16" with a bubble flare. First drive was good, so I went for a longer drive and the brakes locked up. Seems to be a classic issue where the booster sticks. I can crack open the output line and the pressure releases the brakes. But they lock up again when I apply the brakes again. So, I am trying to make a line to bypass the booster but I'm having trouble finding the female fittings that will mate up with the lines that go to the booster. Does anybody know where to get them or what they are called? The female threaded part appears to be 3/8"-14 and I think the tubing that goes into it is 3/16" with a bubble flare. I have plenty of tubing, I just need the fittings. Thanks, Joe Brown -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Thinking back, the Tiger had endured a very rough trip around the Cabot Trail during a period when some serious road construction maintenance was ongoing, resulting in some heavy duty pothole craters that gave the suspension a serious beating. Regardless, they had to be replaced, and knowing the Pin reputation for failure, I decided to replace them as well. I couldn't find a source in North America, but was told to contact J.O. Engineering in the U.K., who produce them. I was surprised and impressed with the obvious quality of these Pins. (See Photo) They are quite spendy, however, but from the look of them, worth the money, setting me back ~$150 CAD each, (roughly $110 USD) including shipping. (Quality has a price tag!) But unless others have already confirmed the quality, I would consider having them checked anyway and not simply trusting how expensive they are. FWIW, on my Alpine, which spent its entire life in So Cal, I discovered at some point that the rubber in my bushings was not just protruding, but fully gone on two of them! Rest assured, the Alpine and Tiger both have good ones now. Dan Walters had the right jig to push them in and out without putting side load on the A arm itself. They are manufactured with the rounded step (and rounded washers) to eliminate the sharp 90 degree step that can induce breakage.? With the Urethane type bushings having a steel insert many eliminate that and have the Urethane ride on a pin that has a thicker area thus reducing the step that was prone to breakage. Fulcrum pins seem to come and go here. Likely made in short order batches and why you found none in the USA??? If I may side in there were about 30 of us who got fulcrum pins through Derick White that were made in South Africa (if not the country then the region). There was a LOT of speculation regarding them. Given that it had been at least 15 years now is anyone had issues with them?? Most were the thicker pin style but I was skeptic about getting proper rounded washers so I opted for the standard version. If your booster has just undergone a rebuild by you or someone else it may have been reassembled incorrectly. Ask me how I know. There's a horseshoe-shaped piece, made of spring steel, that acts as a spring to the two valves in the booster. It's shown (poorly) in edge-view in Figure 10 of the workshop manual as item no. 30 - "Valve springs". If it is installed upside down, the valves will not close as they should and the brakes will lock up after one application. On the second day I took it to get a front end alignment and it was fine on the way over. While the mechanic had the car on the machine he had device clamped on the steering wheel that kept the brake pedal pushed down. It was like that for over an hour and I think that probably caused the booster to stick. I am in the process of moving, so when I get settled I'll tear into to see if I can fix. But I'm not going anywhere without the bypass line. By the way, I had a hard time finding a shop that would do the alignment. I was finally referred to a shop that mostly works on JDM stuff. I told the guy what I needed and he said "no problem". He has a brand new Hunter alignment machine. It has the Tiger specs loaded in it's computer and even shows pictures of the a arms and where to put the shims. Cool machine. They seemed to work. But it's been 25 years. I don't know why Sunbeam used different sized holes for the bottom clips of the door panel. But my door definitely had factory plastic inserts when I got it, and the holes along the bottom were bigger to use the sleeves. This was a very late 1967 Alpine, with the non-peaked headlight rims and license plate lights on the bumper. On the door strap mount, on that same Alpine, it was some sort of rivet type of thing. I ended up replacing it with little aluminum nut and bolt that had very flat heads. The nut was not a nut but basically a screw head with a threaded hole in the center. They are readily available at the hardware store. But, the aluminum wears out. So I later replaced it with a real bolt and lock nut - and I filed down the nut and bolt head to be very thin. So far that's working fine. Yes, I recall that the originals were thin, flexible Tupperware type plastic. I think they are used just to block the inevitable water that gets in the door cavity. The metal panel clip needs to be able to expand the plastic on the backside to keep it from just sliding back out, so if Rick?s are too thick/strong, they won?t work right.
