From drmayf at mayfco.com Fri Mar 3 11:04:28 2023 From: drmayf at mayfco.com (Larry Mayfield) Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2023 10:04:28 -0800 Subject: [Tigers] Non Astronomy Question Message-ID: <002b01d94dfa$9b3784d0$d1a68e70$@mayfco.com> I have an od issue with our Lincoln Towncar, a 2009 version. My son has a home in Las Vegas and we visit occasionally. Last two times we have experienced a failure of both of our remote key fobs We arrive and when we go to lock the car out front at the curb , neither will function! Has happened twice now. We took the fob apart and cleaned it with a Q tp and alcohol and saw nothing amiss and put it back together. When we get ready to leave and return home to Pahrump, we use the actual key to unlock because it still wouldn't work, then start and drive away. No issues driving the 60 miles or so to our place, but, and this is the interesting point, both key fobs now work normally: the door locks work just fine with the fobs, the trunk opens and closes with the fobs. And I had changed the CR2032 batteries not long ago. They both checked at full voltage. Puzzled, I am. Any of you ever had such an issue? And if so, the fix was? Even if you have never had the problem, got any ideas as to the cause? Thanks in advance and please excuse my use to the forum for this. There may be some original clutch type diffs out there as there are some rebuilders but, I couldn?t find one. I looked very hard to find one that had the original spline count. Auburn Gear had one but, after two sets that didn?t fit properly I went with the Eaton Detroit TrueTrack. I had to change axles to 28 spline and the pinion as well. The issue that I had was that the Eaton diff is open in the center and required me to fabricate a thrust block. I am really happy with it and I have the Eaton in another vehicle with a Ford 9? which I am also happy with. It works like a charm with no noise and no issues with 'locking up'. It locks up on hard throttle and firmly plants Both rear wheels. Ther are other options. Just check out the Jeep websites. It?s a Dana 44. Don?t let the ?Salisbury? designation get in your way. If you're putting the British gears on the American 3rd member, the ring gear holes in the rearend housing need to be drilled out to accommodate the 7/16" bolts. If you are putting the American gears on the British unit, you need 3/8" ID 7/16" OD sleeves for the bolts. All 2.88 gears I've seen have the 7/16" ring gear bolts. I've never seen a set of 2.88 gears that had 3/8" bolts. The housing has the?through?holes, and I've have never seen any 1/2" threads or holes. Check your memory. LOL You could use stepped bolts, but that is only needed when you install American ring gears (3/8" threads) on British housings (7/16") holes. Generally it's the other way around, namely original 2.88 British gears with 7/16" threads on an American differential with 3/8 " holes machined out to 7/16". IMO sleeves are much cheaper. Just buy the correct tubing and slice it the thickness of the housing lip. Gary On Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 09:37:22 PM MDT, Gary M.
