The little slotted screw that holds the condenser in the stock Tiger
distributor... The slot stripped and I can't get it out.  I've had
penetrating oil on it (PB) and still no luck. The plate was fairly oily
anyway, so no rust.  Anybody have any ideas, short of total disassembly?

Stu,
If you can get a Dremel tool in there you might be able to clean the slot
up so that it's useable.  Use one of their cutoff disks.

Yes, that's my plan for tomorrow. It's hot as **** here today. It's
uncomfortable working in the garage,  so i quit early.  Tomorrow should be
somewhat cooler.

Good thinking, Stu (re the heat). Hot here in Connecticut also, but I just put down hundreds of pounds of mulch in the 90 degree heat (not very smart on my part. . ?)
When you remove the points plate, be sure to take a close look at the insulating paper where the electrical connection stud goes through the housing. I had a distributor on my machine once and saw flashover where the stud exited the casting. That is something you would never be able to see when installed in any car. You can look on line and get ?fish paper? or its equivalent to make a new one if you want to be safe.

Screw may be to small but could you drill/tap with a reverse thread and
screw it out

I pulled the distributor and disassembled it to get the points plate out.
(Actually I disassembled more, because that little circlip on the vacuum
advance arm dropped down under the base plate) Supporting the points plate
on my bench vice, the screw in the gap between the jaws, I whacked it with
my impact tool, the old style one that you hit with a hammer.  It came
right out.   A new screw with Locktite 242 replaced it.

Anyone have any good to great painters in So Cal?  And the wider So Cal is fine.  Every one I get referenced to seems to be retired or moved out of the state.  I don?t know if it is the inability to get certain types of paints, the cost of minimum wage labor, both or something else.

This is for our fiberglass body 1962 Elva MkVI race car.  It would be even better if they are also great at fiberglass.  We have done all the hard stuff for the fiberglassing.  But needs some details here and there that we?re at the point we just want to pay someone to do it.

Also, if the answer is that it?s better to go out of California, we honestly would consider driving out the body pieces to Nevada, Arizona, etc.  So if you know of someone in another state that we should do, let me know that too.

I will be starting surgery on my stock 2 barrel tomorrow.  There's what
seems to be an odd instruction concerning the accelerator pump discharge
ball. The instruction says to use a brass drift and a hammer to seat the
ball.  But the next instruction says the ball shall be free in the bore.
What are you seating the ball in?   And if it's being seated in something,
how can it be free?  Does it have to pop through some restriction
or something?    Inquiring minds want to know...

I suspect it is to "form" a good seat, the ball is a valve and it shouldn't
leak.

I should probably try to fix my original carb too.  It stopped working in
1973 so I replace it with a Holley that has worked great.
BTW, there are now chinese clones of the original.. I think they were well
under $100.. amazing.
