For some time now we, as a group of mostly racers, have certainly directed
our share of good-natured [mostly] barbs towards "shiners" and those who
would rather have their cars look good than run good.
I could be starting down that evil path myself. While futzing with Killer
today I worked on adding a cigarette lighter plug, so I could power my
old Vericom 200 accelerometer next week at Wendover. All I needed to do
was drill a hole in the aluminum plate I hacked up years ago to cover the
radio opening and now holds the oil pressure gauge.
The lighter is still not installed, but that blanking plate is a LOT shinier
than it used to be. I bought a buffing wheel and some buffing compounds,
fabricated a quick arbor, and spent way more time than I expected in getting
a decent shine on that crufty old blanking plate. Luckily I didn't take the
digital camera down to the shop today, so as of the moment there's no
evidence of my possible descent down this path of polishing.
