[TR] A little bit of history

I just returned from a week and a half in the UK.  For a country in dire 
economic straits I sure saw a lot of Aston-Martins and Maseratis...  But I 
digress.  Part of my stay was in Holton-Le-Clay, in Lincolnshire, visiting 
my bro'.  Holton-Le-Clay has a little garage (in the car repair sense), 
called Holton Motors or something similar, which, my brother said, always 
has interesting older cars on the forecourt.  So, I took a walk over there 
and they had a GT6, an E-Type 2+2, a bunch of old English motor bikes and, 
wonder of wonders, they were working on an Alvis TD(?)21, which I think is 
one of the most elegant convertibles of the 60s.  I spoke to the owner of 
the garage and told him what a beautiful car the Alvis was and he said that 
the car had some history, in that it was once owned by Douglas Bader, the 
WWII fighter ace that lost his legs in a crash before the war and then 
rejoined the RAF to fly a Spitfire with his prosthetic legs.  He told me 
that the current owner has two of the Alvises.

So, that made my day...
